Industries We Serve

Rochem® systems treat some of the most challenging water on Earth, from deep-ocean seawater to heavily contaminated landfill leachate.

FITA Marine brings this capability to Australian and New Zealand operators across every major sector. Each application below draws on Rochem’s proprietary module technology, designed in Hamburg and refined through over 50 years of continuous development.

Marine and Naval

Rochem® has installed and serviced thousands of freshwater generators and sewage treatment systems aboard naval vessels, cruise ships, mega yachts, research vessels, dredgers, river cruise ships, merchant cargo vessels and offshore platforms worldwide.

Submarines that don’t surface for weeks. Research vessels operating in polar waters for months at a time. Cruise ships carrying over 1,000 passengers through protected marine sanctuaries. These are the conditions Rochem systems are built for.

Tailor-made solutions are available for vessels operating in difficult water with high fouling potential. The RV Polarstern, Germany’s flagship polar research vessel, operates with both Rochem RO and BioFilt systems on board.

Rochem BioFilt MBR sewage treatment produces 94 to 97% clean waste water, compliant with MEPC 227(64) for discharge in protected marine areas. It is the only system able to actually meet approved discharge specifications for nature preservation areas.

2,500+ installations worldwide. Classification society approvals from GL, LR, ABS, DNV, BV, RINA. Compliant with DIN, VDE, VDMA, IEC, ISO and NATO-Stanag standards.

Landfill Leachate and PFAS

Rochem® invented the use of reverse osmosis for landfill leachate treatment. In 1984, Rochem began testing disc tube RO systems at the largest landfill in Germany, marking the first time reverse osmosis had been used to control leachate released to the environment. That original operation has continued uninterrupted ever since, serving as both a commercial installation and a continuous test bed for improvement.

Over 40 years of operational learning have given Rochem unmatched expertise in managing the variable parameters that characterise large landfill sites, where water chemistry can change almost daily. Rochem has refined cleaning schedules, programming and system configuration to handle these conditions reliably.

Today, Rochem is the reverse osmosis partner to the largest landfill operators and waste management companies in the world. Typical recovery is between 70% and 95%, dependent on customer requirements.

Rochem’s extremely efficient recovery of PFAS molecules makes these systems well placed for meeting both current standards and anticipated future PFAS regulations. This is directly relevant for Australian and New Zealand operators facing obligations under the PFAS National Environmental Management Plan.

Containerised, multi-stage systems are available for rapid deployment.

Food and Beverage

Rochem® build quality and performance in drinking water applications makes these systems a natural fit where reliable, high-quality treatment of food production wastewater is required.

Whether in fish farming, vegetable processing or distillery operations, where heavy silica and organics are a problem for many conventional systems, Rochem reverse osmosis technology handles these difficult waters through its inherent anti-fouling module design.

Applications include salmon and tuna farming, potato processing, and beverage production wastewater treatment.

Drinking-water-grade build quality. Anti-fouling technology for silica and organic-heavy waters. Proven in aquaculture and food processing.

Industrial Wastewater

Rochem® reverse osmosis is the most efficient way to treat difficult industrial water. The open-channel module design handles high-solids and high-silt water that conventional systems cannot process, often without any prefiltration or chemical pretreatment.

Where chemical pretreatment is required, Rochem systems can automate delivery to reduce operational headcount and downtime. Multi-stage systems maximise recovery of pure water while reducing concentrate volume for disposal.

Industries served include textiles (soap and dye removal), leather tanning, automotive manufacturing, steel production, concrete production, pigment and dye manufacturing, and oil and gas operations.

Handles water conventional RO cannot. Minimal chemical pretreatment. Automated operation reduces staffing. Multi-stage systems for maximum recovery.

Mining and Resources

Australia’s mining sector generates enormous demand for water treatment, often at remote sites with challenging water quality. Rochem containerised RO systems are designed for exactly these conditions, treating high-solids and high-silt water without prefiltration.

Containerised systems suit the logistics of remote mine sites, providing turnkey water treatment that can be deployed, relocated and scaled as operations require.

Energy and Hydrogen Production

Hydrogen production requires ultra-pure water as a feedstock. Rochem’s high-recovery reverse osmosis systems, backed by decades of experience in both marine and land-based desalination, are well suited to this growing sector.

Offshore hydrogen production can draw directly on Rochem’s proven marine RO technology. Land-based applications benefit from Rochem’s strength in treating difficult source water, including desert and deep well supplies.

Pharmaceutical and Chemical Manufacturing

Pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing demand the highest purity water standards. Rochem’s high-recovery, anti-fouling RO technology delivers ultra-clean permeate, supported by German engineering, ISO 9001 certification and decades of precision manufacturing.

Ultra-clean water output. ISO 9001 certified manufacturing. Precision German engineering.

Hospitality and Coastal

Australia and New Zealand’s extensive coastline and island tourism sector creates strong demand for reliable, self-contained desalination systems. Rochem containerised RO units produce drinking-quality water and can be deployed to remote coastal locations, island resorts and temporary installations.

These systems deliver the same proven technology used aboard naval vessels and cruise ships, packaged for land-based hospitality applications.
